Much more than a mere facelift, the last version of the XJS benefitted from a major re-engineering including a virtually entirely new body shell, galvanised and with an increased glass area. There was also new seating front and rear, a new audio system, analogue instrument pack and air conditioning from the XJ40. Under the bonnet, the upgrade included a new gearbox, the ZF 4HP 24E, and a new digital fuel control system with an on-board diagnostic system to help dealers identify issues.
Looking down the impossibly long bonnet of an XJS, swathed in leather and burr walnut with the V12 quietly purring away is one of motoring’s magical experiences. Of the 115,000 XJ-S/ XJS Jaguars built over twenty odd years just on 2,000 were "update" V12 Coupes, introduced from 1991.
So here we have one of the rarest and most collectible modern Jaguars - the V12 XJS coupe - finished in the perfect colour scheme of Westminster Blue with Saville Grey interior. With very reasonable kilometres for its year and freshly serviced and recommissioned at a well-known Jaguar specialist, this opportunity cannot easily be repeated.
Originally supplied to Japan, the car’s recent history has been in New Zealand. The original books, being entirely in Japanese, have been discarded but the NZ records go with the car. A Victorian RWC will be supplied to a local buyer.
