Over the last 107 years, Bentley have built some truly fabulous and now very valuable cars. A standout is the original R Type Continental fastback from 1952, the first of a very exclusive model that ran over a number of series until 1965. All featured coachwork from external coachbuilders from England and Europe in a variety of designs and all of them today are highly collectable.
Our 1956 S Type Series 1 car is one of just 69 built with Park Ward coupe coachwork to Design no 701 with a further 26 built to the very similar Design no 872. By any measure, this is an exceptionally rare car and it is worth noting that the drophead version of this design now sells consistently for over a million dollars.
The history file accompanying the car records details of all owners from new and reveals it has had just four owners in the last fifty years. Imported int0 Australia by the late Charles Lloyd-Jones to join the S2 Continental he had owned from new, it was restored by a new owner in the 1980s. In the last few years it has been restored again with a rebuilt engine by a marque specialist and a repaint in its original Regal Red. The Fawn Connolly interior from the earlier restoration was retained and has developed an attractive patina and today the car presents to a very good standard.
Lovely to drive and lovely to look at, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a significant car that would enhance any collection. Offered with its original owners handbook, UK logbook, toolkit, photographs of its restoration and numerous invoices.
