Replacing the Corniche in 1995, the Azure ran until 2003 before an all-new Azure arrived in 2006. Bentley have recently revived the nameplate for their luxury versions of the Bentayga, Continental and Flying Spur, which may confuse some buyers, but a true Bentley enthusiast will always know exactly how special a first generation Azure is. Sightings are rare however as just 243 were built in RHD and of these, maybe 10 have made it to Australia. Some of you may never have seen one in the flesh.
Starting in the Pininfarina factory in Italy and completed at a special area at Crewe, our car was delivered new to England and later spent a decade in New Zealand before coming to Melbourne. Its first owner was evidently a customer who knew what he wanted as he specified a number of unique features that undoubtedly make this car one-of-a-kind. The Stratos Silver paintwork with Black Connolly hide and a Black hood is a classic combination, but the engine-turned dashboard and centre console hark back to Bentleys of the 1920s, and the polished solid aluminium gear lever adds to the vintage look as do the chrome bezels surrounding the instruments. The waistrails are finished in black leather instead of wood veneer and feature tiny winged "B" badges. Another detail, no doubt missed by all but the most fanatical expert, is that instead of blue badges, as worn by all other Azures, on this one the badges were ordered in red. Experts will also note that this car benefits from the 1998 model year facelift, including the return of the matrix grille and improved seats.
